Imagine the massive spike in traffic for flower companies, not only for February 14, but also the days leading up to Valentine’s Day. How many partners did not plan ahead and ordered same day delivery? I personally would love to see that number.

Are red roses really the keyword of choice or are is today’s society diversifying their valentines? According to Google Insights rising searches include blue and white roses along with poems and even love quotes and homemade valentines!

Are we seeing more time on site? Were Romeos more rushed today verses prior days when they were planning ahead? What was the increased average order value? We all know the cost of roses triples at this time of year- could this be the “Black Friday” for florists? What day in the week leading to Valentine’s Day spikes the most? Does the impact of Valentine’s Day affect other verticals for e.g. dating sites; did they see a spike in people signing up?

Knowing the above data and looking at Google Insights by regional interest shows that I should be moving to Arizona: Colorado doesn’t even show in the top 10 for interest on red roses!

But in all honesty looking at metrics like this can certainly help florists and other gift-related businesses plan ahead for the next season and plan budgets accordingly. Look to include poems and love quotes that people can select as an added bonus when ordering online. On Valentine’s Day make sure you list all flowers that allow for same-day delivery on the home page. Look at keyword history and maybe not only show your best selection of red roses, but also highlight other interesting alternatives.
